Jex Lopez Album Tour with Band and Bec Newman

  • Glenrock Gardens 84 Robinsons Lane Tenterfield, NSW, 2372 Australia (map)

Queer pianist songwriter & performer Jex Lopez launches their new album, taking a quartet of musicians on a NSW storytelling tour.

Queer Mestiça pianist singer Jex Lopez launches their self-titled album, taking a crew of musicians and artists on a NSW sonic and visual tour supported by the Australia Council.  This show is supported by Tenterfield’s own singer songwriter and fellow multi passionate creative and Jex’s close friend Bec Newman. Goodness oozes out of Bec’s bold, clever and heartfelt songs. Come watch the creation of beautiful moments with these sensitive yet powerful performers.

A true performer and storyteller, Jex Lopez creates quirky, dark, yet inspirational tales with piano, soundscapes and a haunting voice. Jex murders the old guard and in its place reinvents traditional Latin musical elements paired with satire and an evocative call to arms.

Lopez’s blend of intelligent lyrics, progressive social themes, bold rhythms and dramatic voice is as mesmerizing as it is brutally honest. From fairy tales to Latin divas, to the Blues, and circus arts, Lopez is inspired by and shares art in all its forms.

“Jex Lopez’s fierce and beautiful story-telling and siren songs are medicine for the soul. A celebration of lives lost and loved, Lopez’s show is an authentic offering to the sonic gods.” (Betty Grumble, performance artist)

Jex is joined on stage by trans non binary singer songwriter Meraki Mae on guitar and mesmerising harmonies, Vonnstar on saxophone and drums and Melissa Hunt on double bass. This is a one time only collaboration that cannot be missed.

Lopez’s show features sonic story telling with original music and lyrics. The show is a homage to the spirit of transformation and hope, an honouring of the full range of experiences and emotions and the progressive change makers that continue to inspire Jex. Covid, floods, nothing can keep these artists back from sharing the joy and pain of life. Musically influenced by Chavela Vargas, Nick Cave, Patty Smith, Jeff Buckley, Victor Jara, Kate Bush, Candy Royalle and Llhasa de Sela, Lopez’s work is a unique blend of cross genre art, performance and breathtakingly beautiful music.
